Alma and Eric Stearns Correspondence

Alma and Eric spent considerable time apart during the early years of their marriage due to Eric's travels associated with his work for the United States Census Bureau. During their time apart they kept in touch through letters sent via U.S. Mail, most likely because long-distance telephone calls were prohibitively expensive in those days. The set of letters archived here is a treasure for succeeding generations, providing readers with a glimpse into Eric and Alma's loving relationship. The letters below appear both in their original, handwritten form as well as in transcription (painstakingly typed by daughter Barbara, presumably after her parents' deaths). The letters are organized by year for purposes of chronology and ease in navigation. 1919     Alma meets Eric (September 1919) 1920     Alma and Eric are engaged (May 17, 1920); Alma and Eric are married (September 8, 1920) 1922     Eric travels extensively through Kansas for work 1923 1924 1931 1933 1934 1935
