Dottie and Carl Wenzinger

Family photos-10Dottie and Carl met at the University of Maryland, where Carl was studying electrical engineering and Dottie was in the nursing program. They were married August 7, 1948, in Dottie's home town of Cheverly, MD. By today's standards, they were very young: Carl was 22 and Dottie had just turned 20. After their marriage, Carl continued his engineering studies while Dottie earned what she proudly called her "PHT" (putting hubby through) degree.

Dottie and Carl raised four children; they had 16 grandchildren and three great-grandsons. During their nearly 60 years together, Dottie and Carl lived in the Washington, DC area (including twice in Bethesda, Maryland); in Michigan City, Indiana; and in Concord, Massachusetts. In 1974, they moved to the Binghamton, NY, area to be closer to Carl's new business.

For many years Dottie and Carl lived in a spacious and comfortable home situated on six acres on Bunn Hill Road in Vestal. There they entertained friends and made happy memories with their beloved grandchildren. In semi-retirement, they built a second home on a lot with deep-water frontage in Deltaville, VA,  where Carl kept his boat (the "Karen-Leigh") just outside the back door.

In 2000, Dottie and Carl made what would be their final move: to The Highlands retirement community in Johnson City, where they enjoyed a comfortable apartment on Carpathian Hill with a panoramic view of the Tri-Cities area. This was their home until they passed away (Carl in 2006 and Dottie in 2011).

Dottie and Carl's graves are located in Riverhurst Cemetery (Endwell, NY), where they share a common headstone (pictured below).
