Anna (“Annie”) and George Kaelin

Annie KaelinAnna Barbara and George J. Kaelin were Carl Jr's maternal grandparents, the parents of his mother Emma Kaelin Wenzinger (b. 1904, d. 1994). George Kaelin (Grossy's father)George Kaelin was Annie's second husband. Annie was born in Switzerland on June 22, 1868; her parents' names are unknown, though her maiden name is thought to be Furst/Furest/Fuerst. George was also born in Switzerland, on April 23, 1880, the son of Mienrode and Katherine Kaelin (according to George's death certificate). George immigrated to the United States in 1902 from the town of Einsiedeln (La Savoie, from Le Havre to New York, Jan 11-18, 1902); Annie immigrated in 1890, per the 1910 U.S. Census. In 1910, George and Anna lived with their children at 1906 Hilton Street in Philadelphia (1910 U.S. Census). By December 1924, at the time of daughter Emma's marriage to Carl Wenzinger, the family was living at 124 West Durham St. in Philadelphia and George was working as a machinist (see Carl and Emma's marriage license). According to the 1940 U.S. Census, George (then 59 years old) worked as a shearer in the carpet-making business. Son Howard (then 29) worked as a weaver in the same business. Annie, George and Howard, their youngest, still lived at 124 Durham St. in Philadelphia. A best guess as to the time frame of the photo would be the late 1940s. Annie and George died nine months apart. According to Annie's death certificate, she passed on February 3, 1952, as a result of a cerebral thrombosis. George died of congestive heart failure on November 22, 1952. The couple was still living at the Durham Street address when they died. Both are buried in Whitemarsh Memorial Park near Philadelphia. Before Annie was married to George Kaelin, she was married to George Kindig. Annie's marriage to her first husband produced four children. Her marriage to George Kindig ended when he died. The children from Annie's first marriage (which are Emma's half siblings) are:
